Helen Bailes

Helen is drawn to work in porcelain clay by it's characteristic ability to express delicacy, fluidity and luminosity, also having great strength once fired. Also using Stoneware for home and garden including water features, fountains and planters.

Helen’s work is inspired by the forms patterns and dynamics found in the natural world. Through the sensual handling of clay the process of growth, containment and disintegration is evoked. Each piece is individual, found objects including shells and leaves are used to create textures.

Porcelain is used to produce delicate bowls, vases, candle-holders, lamps and teapots ‘with attitude!’ Larger forms are made from stoneware clay, including planters and fountains with textures reminiscent of cliffs & rockpools.

Helen is a member of two North Devon co-operative galleries, has work in other galleries in Devon and Cornwall, and takes part in the following events and exhibitions:
North Devon Arts SQUARE PICTURE SHOW held in the Stables, Broomhill Art Hotel, Barnstaple Devon,
THE WESTWARD HO! & BIDEFORD ART SOCIETY SUMMER EXHIBITION, held at the Burton Art Gallery & Museum, Kingsley Road, Bideford Devon,

Helen took part in The Pilton Green Man Festival in the summer where she was demonstrating and selling Green man ceramics in the Rotary Gardens and she also had some clay for the children to have a go. w:
